Ever since John and I started dating, one of our favorite things to do together has been to get out and do things outdoors. His idea of a good time is less ‘dinner and a movie’ and more ‘ten-mile mountain trek’, which explains why we so frequently meet in the middle at ‘leisurely hike and beer.’ It works.
This also means he can be tricky to shop for. The traditional Esquire-esque gift guide staples like a leather satchel (why?) or fancy toiletry kit don’t cut it. A piece of gear like a hiking backpack or a pair of scuba fins is much more his style.
There have been so many times I’ve wanted to get Johnny something more special, something he’ll use for years like a nice wallet or accessory, but I always back out because I feel like it’s just not up his alley.
Which is why when JORD approached me about sending me one of their watches as a holiday gift for John, my first instinct was ‘pass.’ But I thought what the heck and clicked through to take a look. You guys, how cool are these watches?
They’re made of hand-finished, 100% natural wood, and the company lists its values as “sustainability, efficiency, and experiential living.” Um, that’s basically my fiancé in a nutshell.
I immediately responded and picked out the ‘Frankie’ style in Dark Sandalwood and Smoke for John. It arrived a few days later and I gave it to him right away (whoops).
I love that it’s unique without being flashy, which isn’t easy to find in a men’s watch. It looks classy enough for John to wear to work, but it would also look great with something more casual like jeans and a polo.
JORD makes women’s wood watches too; I’m digging the ‘Reese’ in Zebrawood and Emerald for winter.
The best part of this collaboration is that JORD has generously offered my readers a coupon code for 25% off a purchase in their online store. Get it here and they’ll send the code straight to your inbox! Let me know which one you decide to get.
